Most travel sites answer a different question: what exists? We answer a harder one: what's worth it? That means telling you when famous things deserve your time — and when they don't.
Three layers
The Atlas — a structured knowledge database of South African travel entities. Eventually thousands of places, each knowing where it is, what it pairs with, and how it relates to a trip.
The Field Guide — the human editorial layer. Is it worth going? How long? Should you overnight? Who will love it? Who should skip it? With visible provenance — we show how we know what we know.
The Trip Engine — uses Atlas data and Field Guide judgment to help you build better trips, rather than sending an open-ended prompt to an LLM and returning generic web knowledge.
What we won't do
- Fabricate reviews, visits, or contributor expertise.
- Present research as firsthand experience.
- Let affiliate relationships influence rankings.
- Auto-generate thousands of thin SEO pages.
- Pretend a place is field-reviewed when it isn't.
Where we are now
This is an early build. The architecture is in place; the depth is being added province by province, starting with the Western Cape and the major safari areas. We'd rather show you a few genuinely useful pages than thousands of empty ones.
