Why go
The capital of Mpumalanga, on the Crocodile River in the lowveld — a warm, green city of mango and macadamia orchards, and the practical gateway for Kruger's southern gates (Numbi, Phabeni, Malelane), the Panorama Route, and the Mozambique Lebombo border. Nelspruit is mostly a base, not a destination — but it's a good one: a usable CBD, the Lowveld Botanical Garden, and a real town where you can provision and refuel before the park. The honest take: stay here the night before a Kruger gate, not the night after a day of game viewing inside.
